  1. push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.

    2. push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable.

    3. erase processed food from your diet. start with no lollies, chips, biscuits, then erase pasta, rice, cereal, then bread. use the rule that if a child couldn’t identify what was in it, you don’t eat it.

    4. get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else.

    5. stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.

    6. buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.

    7. buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.

    8. strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full.

    9. organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.

    10. have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck.

    11. push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog.

    12. message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through.

    14. think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything.

    15. become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends.

    16. lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.

Okay, so this is just gonna be a one thing list, but it is worthy for the amount of bother it is.

Things That Bother Me

1. When boys think that liking Kate Upton makes them somehow progressive.

More specifically, when boys think that liking Kate Upton makes them somehow progressive for women’s self acceptance and self love, because she has “womanly curves”. One male friend said to me “She’s changing what it means to be a woman.” AKA “No more of that stick thin booby free shit. Bring on the BOOBS.” And I didn’t even recognize it at the time, let alone have the capacity to articulate it, but that is such bullshit. Kate Upton is firstly, very beautiful. Her body too, is very beautiful. This is not a Kate Upton bashing. It’s a critique of the thought process that many males take on around women’s bodies. An opportunity for thoughtful conversation, and a deepening of understanding. Liking Kate Upton doesn’t promote the acceptance and appreciation of so-called “real women” with “real curves”. It promotes yet another even harder to attain ideal for women— still fairly stick thin, just with enormous, bouncy breasts attached. It doesn’t promote “real women”. It promotes one kind of real woman’s body, just as most thin fashion models promote another kind of real woman’s body. Liking Kate Upton (and, let’s just take a moment to consider what exactly ‘liking’ means— ahem, computer screen and box of tissues. Oh, so very progressive of you to appreciate a woman solely for her appearance. Continue) doesn’t make you progressive. It doesn’t mean you accept “real women” with “real womanly curves”. It won’t promote the real women in your life to accept their own bodies, because Kate Upton’s body is just another extremely unattainable ideal, that is equally, if not more unattainable for most women than being stick thin. Kate Upton’s body is a real woman’s body. So is Coco Rocha’s. So is mine. Accepting only one type of body as a “real woman“‘s body will never be progressive.

SIDE NOTE! In other news, this is a GREAT article on Kate Upton’s commendable denial to a boy’s prom proposal. If you are not a current fan of Upton’s, this will make into one— and not in the way you’d think. http://nymag.com/thecut/2013/03/kate-upton-will-not-go-to-prom-with-that-nerd.html

I once read this list somewhere on the interweb, and I found it so beautiful, I copy and pasted it into a blank document and left it there. I came across it again this morning, and I thought it so lovely it had to be shared! (PS. I’m sorry I hadn’t put down where I’d found it… If this is yours, let me know and I’ll credit you! You have really wonderful taste in words.) Without further ado, here is List # 10, or Words “I” like to Say.

Words I like to Say

  • shoelace
  • delicatessen
  • cellar door
  • pâtisserie
  • splendid
  • iridescent

And here are a few more I found rendered upon a simple googling of “the most beautiful words”. Part 2 of List # 10.

Ailurophile

A cat-lover.

AHEM! Miss Swinton!

Becoming

Attractive.

I love this one. Always makes me think of how my future British husband will refer to me. “Yes well, when we met she was wearing this ludicrous orange poncho which was actually most becoming if you can believe it or not.” Le sigh!

Brood

To think alone.

Chatoyant

Like a cat’s eye.

Diaphanous

Filmy.

Dulcet

Sweet, sugary.

This one always makes me think of this line delivered from the Weasley Twins “Hello, Harry, we thought we heard your dulcet tones”

Ebullience

Bubbling enthusiasm.

Effervescent

Bubbly.

Elision

Dropping a sound or syllable in a word.

Good word! As my parents oft exclaim mid Scrabble game.

Elixir

A good potion.

Again, I think of Harry Potter. Thank you to JK Rowling for at once illuminating my childhood, and expanding my vocabulary..

Eloquence

Beauty and persuasion in speech.

(AKA, Barack Obama)

Ephemeral

Short-lived.

Fetching

Pretty.

Reminds me of retching… Rather opposite in meaning haha

Fugacious

Fleeting.

Not too sure about Fugacious. I do like fleeting though, so it stays :)

Gambol

To skip or leap about joyfully.

Gossamer

The finest piece of thread, a spider’s silk

Oh, Emily Dickison, you will always have my heart.

Halcyon

Happy, sunny, care-free.

Lovely meaning, don’t you think?

Incipient

Beginning, in an early stage.

Made me think of Insipid, which also a nice word

Ineffable

Unutterable, inexpressible.

Ingénue

A naïve young woman.

Hmph..

Languor

Listlessness, inactivity.

Oh!

Lassitude

Weariness, listlessness.

These past two will definitely be used in soon journal entries! Days on the Gulf Islands..

Lilt

To move musically or lively.

Lithe

Slender and flexible.

Love

Deep affection.

Nemesis

An unconquerable archenemy.

Offing

The sea between the horizon and the offshore.

Penumbra

A half-shadow.

Mmm.

Petrichor

The smell of earth after rain.

!!! I didn’t know this word existed! How perfect! I’ll have to trade it in on my list of favourite smells.

Quintessential

Most essential.

This word seems to constantly be stuck in my head!

Redolent

Fragrant.

Serendipity

Finding something nice while looking for something else.

I don’t like this one, but that’s most likely because of my automatic association to that dreadful movie..

Summery

Light, delicate or warm and sunny.

!

Surreptitious

Secretive, sneaky.

My Dad looooves to slip this word in, usually as adverb(!) whenever he can.

Wherewithal

The means.

Woebegone

Sorrowful, downcast

Just had a major, genius breakthrough. Here is some General Life Mapping for your personal enjoyment. Personally I love hearing about other people’s life plans, and I always assume other people do too.. Just like I still assume people are equally enthralled by hearing about my dreams, because I looove hearing people’s dreams. Like, what does that shit mean?! So interesting! Anyways. Here’s List # 7, if not for your enjoyment, then for my sanity.

  1. Apply to AA
  2. Get hired!
  3. Part time!
  4. Switch to part time at Zara
  5. Go half n’ half for a couple months.
  6. Ask both stores about transferring to Montreal Stores.
  7. Both think this is a GENIUS idea.
  8. Continue both jobs in Montreal
  9. AND BE WITH MY FRIENDZ!!!
  10. YAAAYYYYYY!!!!

I’m so, so, so excited. Because I’m all hyped up on all this manifestation idea, but had nowhere to apply in my life because I had no clue what I wanted to do. Now I DO!! Now I have a plan to put into action! YAY! OMG, YAY!
